But for now it’s time to wave your flags, cross your fingers and cheer on your country as your team embark on their quest for glory.
World champions Spain are the hot favourites but the Germans and the Dutch cannot be counted out. While everyone seems to have written England off perhaps it’s time we’ll finally hear the Three Lions roar.
The Republic of Ireland are at their first tournament in a while and are hoping to match the success of their World Cup campaign in 2002. Host nations Poland and Ukraine will be looking to use home momentum to shock some of the big boys.
For all those people travelling to Poland and Ukraine I wish you a safe journey and hope you have a fantastic time.
So let’s hope for goals galore and a tournament played out in a fine sporting spirit. May the best team win.
At the end, after the tears, the controversy and debate, another set of players will have written their names in the history books.
